This blog may seem it is just for nerdy past times, but I like normal movies as well and I decided I needed to review one.
The Facts are These:
Jesus Gris, an ageing antique dealer come across an Archangel statue, when he sees cockroaches coming from the statue he decided to open it. In the he finds a golden mechanism that injures him. Now he is slowly changing into something that lives in the night.
This movie is a Mexican vampire flick with a twist. The Vampires are created by a device called the Cronos. The vampire looks pretty cool in design, much like how Guillermo del Toro designs them in his movies, pale white and some sort of connection to a bug. The movie was mostly in Mexican with the exception of an English opening and Ron Perlman speaking, this was my first Mexican movie I have watched so I don’t know if that is the norm, but it didn’t bother me, it just stood out. Overall it had a great concept and a great cast with Federico Luppi was great actor.
Behind the Scenes:
The film was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and distributed by October Films. It was made in Mexico and premièred at Cannes Film Festival on May 3 1993. The budget of the movie was $2 million and it grossed $621,392. This was the first movie where Guillermo del Toro collaberated with Ron Perlman and Federico Luppi and not the last. Here is the trailer of the film so you can get a feel for the movie, I hope you enjoy…
A Brief View of the World:
This movie takes place in modern day for the time. The large difference in their world and ours is that in 1536 an alchemist found a way to give someone eternal life. Through the use of the device he made called the Cronos, a meld of a living insect and clockwork that created a solution to be injected into someone.
This movie was great, it had an interesting story and an awesome cast. Ron Perlman stood out as different because of him using English and the other actors not. I like Guillermo del Toro’s take on vampires, they are monsters compared to the pretty boy heart throbs that have become more well known.
The movie is 93 minutes long which is a manageable movie length, it is a great watch for any vampire enthusiast.
The Strain – For another Vampire series created by Guillermo del Toro
Pan’s Labryinth – For an amazing movie by Guillermo del Toro.
I do not own any of the above used pictures and/or video they belong to their original creators, Guillermo del Toro.
