Seasonal Anime Attempt: Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches First Impression

Let us delve into the final seasonal anime attempt of the season of seasonal viewing… Season.

The show revolves around Yamada, a delinquent at a prestigious high school. One day while walking up the stairs he trips, and falls on the girl Shiraishi. When he awakes in the infirmary he finds out he has switched bodies with her. How will he get back to his own body and can he resist his urges.

Dude looks like a lady!

The show has an interesting premise where the main characters can switch bodies. It is also insinuated that there are more people in the school with special abilities. At this moment in time there is nothing really special about the characters, though I say this expecting there to be more development in the future.

This scene looked nice and was well done.

The opening for this show is by far my favourite opening in a while. I find the song really matches the show and the simplicity is just makes it more interesting. They put some sort of gradience or effect on the opening that just made it look better in my opinion.

I REALLY liked the opening for this show.

I REALLY liked the opening for this show.

Overall, I found the first episode of the show to be a setup. It may seem dull, but it is for creating a more cohesive show in the future. It think the first episode is heavy in information, but the show will probably be better in the future.

  1. I liked the first volume of the manga, but only time will tell if it has enough legs to remain interesting or work as an anime.

I viewed this episode more focusing on the relationship between Shiraishi and Yamada, since it is really important in the series, even when the other witches are showing up. My only thought about it is that the comedic part that is present later was not fully shown in this episode.

Still haven’t seen the episode, but this is one of the series I look forward to this season. Good to know it’s well done so far. I read about 50 chapters of the manga, but haven’t gotten back to it. I agree it’s somewhat info-dumped, so one might get lost in the story if not watched/read in regularity.

Yeah, the first episode was dense with content. You would have to watch the show consistently to enjoy it fully.

      • miharusshi says:

Most first episodes of manga to anime adaptations adapt the first chapter of the manga, which is normally about 50 to 60 pages. No wonder the first episode itself is quite packed.

      • dandylion13 says:

Yeah I think I heard the condensed the first 3 chapters into the episode.

      • miharusshi says:

Woah, and I just found out today that they’re doing a 12-episode series! Only 12 episodes! I know the anime’s pretty much just a promotional material for the manga, but I’m really curious if they’ll pull out an anime original ending, or go with the manga flow and leave things open.

      • dandylion13 says:

They would have to go with an anime original ending for the series, because the series would be to hectic if they tried to condense all of that content into 12 episodes. Unless another season of the show is going to come out then they could just leave a semi-cliffhanger.

      • miharusshi says:

Indeed. We’ve heard no words of a split-cour for this anime adaptation, so it’ll be mostly likely the former. I don’t mind, though, as long as the ending will wrap up nicely what the first 11 eps would be like.

      • dandylion13 says:

Yeah though I hope they don’t rush through the witches. With every two episodes focusing on one witch I don’t think that it will be enough for the witches.

I think the seiyuu of each character are good. It’s fit well with the characters. My only wish is that they will follow the manga until the end of the anime 🙂
