The World God Only Knows: 2D not 3D!

As a reward for Sekinetsu help with the site’s banner he was allowed to pick five thing for me to review. He picked five anime and this here is one of them.

The Facts are These:

Keima Katsuragi is known as the God of Conquest, being able to complete any dating sim game. It is because of his skill he is contracted by the devil Elucia de Lute Ima. Together they must capture the escaped souls from hell, the only way this can be done is by making the girls fall in love with him. If he can’t complete the contract, he will lose his head.

Discoveries:

Now this is what I am talking about. This series is one of the more unique series that I have watched before. It is a weird blend of supernatural, romance, comedy and slice of life. Sure that is not a unique genre in of itself, but this show presents it so well. The unique reason why he is chosen for the job and the world itself is enough to get you hooked as soon as you finish the first episode. Also I noticed how awesome the music in this anime is. They use an orchestral theme, with heavy use of the violin and piano. It works so well with the mood of the show, making the show that much better.

Behind the Scenes:

The series is based off the manga series of the same name, but author and artist Tamiki Wakaki. With his other works including a series of one-shots and Holy Crystal Albatross, with this being the series that he is most well known for. The series was directed by Shigehito Takayanagi, with his other works including Tokyo ESP and Kanamemo. The series was written by Hideyuki Kurata, with his other works including Maria the Virgin Witch, Tokyo ESP and Tokyo Ravens. The series was produced by studio Manglobe and is licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks, in Australia by Madman Entertainment and in the United Kingdom by Manga Entertainment.

The opening song for the series is “God Only Knows” by Elisa…

A Brief View of the World:

The world seems like it is normal Tokyo Japan, but in fact their world is deeper than what we may believe. In their world hell does exist, though it may not be the hell that we all imagine. The devils are not the torturous ones that we remember, but pretty average people.

The scenes where souls come out are pretty interesting.

Enjoyment:

The series is extremely enjoyable with a great concept, characters and overall it is a fun series to watch. Sure, the heroines fall into the stereotypical personalities of anime, though it feels right in this show because of the main characters own personality quirks.

Rewatchability:

The series is rewatchable with only 12 episodes, however there is more than one season of the show. If you enjoyed this season the continue to watch the show, but before rewatching the series watch the later season to consider if it is worth your time to do it.

Rating:

8/10

I need to start this asap, had this on my HDD for months

  2. TWGOK’s is good stuff. It’s funny and I like how the protagonist isn’t just deceiving the girls to get a kiss, but rather helping them with a personal problem. I have watched the first two seasons and read the whole manga. I’m worried about season three as I hear that they rushed through the story and cut out tons of stuff.
