WOW! I did not expect this old manga to be made into an anime, let’s dive into an oldy but a goody, Ushio to Tora’s first episode.
Ushio is a young boy whose father is the head priest of a temple. When his father goes away on a trip Ushio is asked to clean the book storage. There he finds a cellar door that he has never seen before. When he opens it he finds a large tiger-like demon sealed to the wall by a weapon known as the Beast Spear. When his friends lives become endangered by the attracted demons he releases the sealed demon and gains the powers of the Beast Spear. Defeating the demons he decides it is too dangerous to leave the demon alone, forcing it to stay by his side, naming it Tora.
I have read the manga for this series a couple of times, so when I heard it was being made into an anime I was excited and the first episode did not let me down. The first episode introduced all the important characters, and their relationships well. It also did a good job recreating the dynamic between Ushio and Tora from the manga.
The fight scene with Ushio and Tora fighting the large demon was fast and interesting. I enjoyed how they didn’t keep all of the characters serious all the time we saw comical appearances of the characters when they were doing something silly or out of character.
This episode was good start and sets up more interesting stories for the future. Not really, but I know it will get more interesting in the future. I am really looking forward to continuing to watch this series.
