Here Comes the Anger Train: Show Cancellations!

Cancelled

AM I NOT ALLOWED TO ENJOY MY SHOWS IN PEACE! WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT AND FIND OUT THE SHOW I ENJOYED IS CANCELLED! GOD DAMMIT!!!

With my posts “Here Comes the Anger Train” I talk about a subject that makes me upset, but I always try and talk about the other side of the argument to an extent. This topic though has me angry beyond belief and there are many reasons why. I love television… Scratch that I enjoy most forms of media in general, so why can’t I enjoy a show nowadays without the worry that it is going to be cancelled. I mean seriously, I wait a while to see a shows ratings to make sure it won’t get cancelled… I AM PARANOID! I just want to sit down, watch a good show and get the complete story, but the big corporations won’t let me.

I feel like I'm Truman from the Truman Show, where anything I love can be taken away on a whim.

I feel like I’m Truman from the Truman Show, where anything I love can be taken away on a whim.

Let’s talk about a popular example that rose from the dead and still has a popular fan base, Firefly. This space western has numerous fans, a great story, and cast yet it was cancelled. I guess the world wasn’t ready for a show like Firefly, but through purchasing the Firefly products got them to make a motion picture and continue the story.Where fans rejoiced, but not enough to go to the theatre, boosting the ticket sales for a second movie. So Firefly died off to only live in the pages of comic books and books.

Another and more recent example the made me make this rant was Young Justice. I mean there was seriously nothing wrong with this show. It was great, it had great characters, build up, story it was overall an amazing superhero cartoon. There was such a large and creative team of heroes, the stories were good. I thought I was watching Teen Titans or Batman the Animated Series again. Then the show was cancelled with a cliffhanger the foretold an awesome next season. I mean seriously Darkseid would be awesome to see in the show, but no screw the fans we will leave you with the death of a beloved character.

Warner Bros. is not even allowing the support of a Kickstarter campaign for the reboot of a last season. That shows you how much people want to continue Young Justice. I wish something would happen for Young Justice like what happened to the TV show Chuck. All of the fans bought subway because subway was a sponsor for the show and left a comment saying I am buying this because of Chuck. That is brilliant and it worked the show continued for three more season. This is what I don’t like about TV nowadays, in the past they would at least give you a comfortable conclusion to leave off of, but now I will never know what happened to the team that I grew so fond of. I am tired of watching a TV, putting my time and dedication into the show, purchasing all of the show on DVD. I put my time and money into the show to get nothing in return.

If they ever make comics for Young Justice like they did with Avatar the Last Airbender I will buy them hands down. I have no hope anymore for show and I am just tired. I want to watch a complete story. That is why I enjoy anime, a majority of the time they will at least finish the series with an ending, or make an OVA for a conclusion. I mean shows are cancelled on a whim, here is a list of 58 shows cancelled in 2015! THIS JUST PISSES ME OFF!

Why can’t I enjoy my shows in peace?

On one note the only show I cared about on that list was Phineas and Ferb. But one show that really sticks in my mind that I really hate that it ended, and ended on a cliffhanger was Terminator the Sarah Conner Chronicles. Not only that I am always disappointed in anime that end on a cliffhanger and give promise of another season but there is none, it basically says read the source material. However it is starting to become rare these days, which I am glad for. I always hate it when shows have potential too. My brother said that It is Always Sunny in Philadelphia was to be cancelled at season 1, but the head at FX wanted to give it another season to give it another chance, now it has up to season 12 scheduled.

I hear Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a really good show, my friends always want me to watch it. I felt though that Phineas and Ferb had a good finale for what the show was. It answered who ended up with who and where they ended up which is what every fan wanted to know. I like though that it is becoming rarer but regrettably it is still happening.

I feel your pain – I am a fan of Young Justice. The number of shows that get cancelled on cliffhangers is ridiculous. These days I hardly watch any TV because I don’t want to get invested in a story for nothing.

Young Justice was a tragic cliffhanger that I want to know the answers to. I think they said that they are making a comic sequel, but that is just a rumor. I still watch a lot of TV, I just hate watching show that I enjoy that I know are not going to get a second season when they need it like Forever.

I can relate..Young Justice is one of the finest shows I’ve ever seen, I was devastated when it was cancelled! Recently, it was announced that Hannibal would be cancelled and a little piece of me died inside! Network television seems to be a brutal, cut throat business, perhaps the emergance of new ways to enjoy our entertainment, like online streaming services, will help to see this kind of thing being limited to the past as we’ll be able to enjoy TV series in their entirety, as the creators intended and at our own pace.

Shit Hannibal is being cancelled! Why does god hate me. Young Justice was an amazing series that like the Teen Titans should have gotten a proper ending to it. I hope Netflix can do something about either show that would be awesome.

  4. Ugh! I know how you feel! “Firefly”, “Almost Human”, “Fast Lane”, “John Doe”…and that’s just the Fox shows! Don’t even get me started on what happened to “The Zeta Project” (one of KidsWB’s more interesting originals, IMO). There are three main reasons why I don’t much bother with what’s actually on T.V. anymore, and these stupid cancellations are at the top–the other two being horrible reality shows and the demise of Saturday Morning, Weekday Morning, and Weekday Afternoon cartoons on local broadcast stations (we don’t have cable or satellite T.V.).

And it’s always the good stuff with interesting stories and premises, not the catfight-a-thons or the reality shows. I mean, they canceled “Almost Human”…for “Empire.” No, I don’t want the music industry’s answer to “Dynasty.” I want a robot with a super-advanced AI and a guy with a robotic leg and serious trust issues fighting crime in the future.

I’m a big sci-fi and fantasy buff, primarily of the action/adventure persuasion. Unfortunately, “adult” T.V. is short on the stuff and the kids’ blocks that used to carry it are all replaced with infomercials, morning news shows, and Litton edutainment shows. All I can say is, thank goodness for Netflix.

Netflix is a saviour bringing back all the shows that we used to watch as a kid. Maybe this will reignite some people to give the some more thought into cartoons nowadays. I haven’t watched Almost Human, Fast Lane or John Doe, I would give them a shot, but since I know they were cancelled I don’t want to be disappointed. Firefly is great and I am glad that it got the sequel movie Serenity, it needed some sort of closure that it got from the movie.
We need more of the big sci-fi and fantasy those are such good genres. But I understand that they are not as popular as they used to be which makes it harder for them to be made.
Fun Fact: I own the first season of The Zeta Project on DVD got it for 5 dollars at an outlet store. That show was amazing and definitely needed more episodes.

I must confess, I haven’t felt offended by the cancellation of any shows in a long while. I was sad the various times Community was cancelled but had to admit it was a fair enough decision.

I know your pain mate. I’m still pissed Rome got cancelled like 10 years ago.
