Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon: It Is Never Okay, Unless It Is In a Three Way

The Facts are These:

In this world the Gods have descended onto earth and have granted powers and abilities to those who chose to serve under them or in other terms join their Familia. This story focuses around Bell Cranel the only member of the Hestia Familia and his rise to prominence.

Discoveries:

I thoroughly enjoyed the show, it gave me the feeling of Sword Art Online done well. That is to say Log Horizon is Sword Art Online’s concept done really well. While This show exceeds Sword Art Online’s Dungeon concept and characters better. The title makes you think that this show is going to be a fantasy harem, which it is, but not to the extent that the title would make you believe. The show instead focuses on the development of the shows protagonist and how he becomes a rising star. The characters that he meets up with and join his party actually get a fair bit of development. Why they chose to do what they did and what reason are they trying to move on. I enjoyed that aspect, they weren’t just people to be there for the sake of being there, they were their to support Bell and Bell supported them in the process.

This scene where he acquires his magic is actually pretty badass.

Behind the Scenes:

The series is based off of the light novel of the same name by author Fujino Oomori. With this being her only work of noteworthy. The series was directed Sakuraba Katsushi, with his other works including Kamisama no Memochou, Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru, Shingetsutan Tsukihime, and Asatte no Houkou. The series was produced by Studio J.C. Staff and was licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks.

The opening song is “Hey World” by Yuka Iguchi…

A Brief View of the World:

In the world of this show the gods have descended to earth and granted their blessing to humans who join their familia. When a human is a part of a gods familia he/she is able to become a hero level up and gain extraordinary powers.

Towards the end of the series Bell is pretty much a Badass

Enjoyment:

This series is enjoyable with a plot that makes you want to see more of the protagonist. Which is also what I disliked about the show, it ended before I could see more. The show gives you this major plot reveal and then is like “Well, I hope you enjoyed the show.” That was a bummer. Also some of the plot points could have been shortened to compensate for the shows limited run.

Rewatchability:

The series is rewatchable with only 13 episodes. The characters are fun and will keep you entertained as you watch the show and it’s characters. Though the ending is a bit anticlimactic, when it drops this large information bomb and then there is the possibility of never knowing what comes of this from the future.

Rating:

7/10

Recommendations:

Log Horizon – For a great series with a similar feel to it.

No Game No Life – For just an overall interesting fantasy world setting.
