Valkyria Chronicles: Bring on the WAR!

The Facts are These:

In a country that resembles 1930’s Europe, the country is divided into two main forces, The Imperial Forces and the Federations. The story takes place in the neutral country Gallia and follows Welkins and Alicia, with their fight against the war in the militia group, Squad 7.

This show is very impactful, showing war like it is. Though when they introduce the concept of the Valkyrie I was interested, but I found it took away from the show and what it was originally going for. The show is still entertaining, with great characters and amazing combat, but I feel it could’ve have been more than what it was.

Behind the Scenes:

The series is based off the video game series of the same name by Sega. The game has won several awards, Best RPG of the year, Best Strategy RPG, Best Graphics and many more. The anime was directed Yasutaka Yamamoto, whose other works include Hero Bank and Problem Children are coming from Another World, Aren’t They?. The series was written by Michiko Yokote, whose other works include Mermaid Melody, Princess Tutu and xxxHolic. The series was produced by studio A-1 Pictures and is not licensed in North America at this time.

The opening is “Asu e no Kizuna” performed by Cahterine St. Onge

and the second opening is “Kanashimi Rensa” performed by pop band MARIA.

A Brief View of the World:

The world of Valkyria Chronicles takes place with in several countries with a rich world history. There was a race of people known as Valkyries, they had massive powers and stronger than any army could imagine.

This series is enjoyable with an interesting story and amazing combat. The story is great though I feel this show would have been better without the mystical elements of the Valkyries. Though that did not take away from this good anime.

This series is rewatchable with 26 episodes, it is fun and keeps your interest with the good story and characters.

Pumpkin Scissors – For another military anime with supernatural elements.

Code Geass – A deep and compelling military anime that has great combat and depth.

I do not own any of the above used pictures and/or video they belong to their original creators, A1 Pictures and Sega.
