Shounen Onmyouji: Demons got Nothin on Deez

Shounen Onmyouji

The Facts are These:

Masahiro is the grandson of the greatest Onmyouji of their time, Abe no Seimei. When Masahiro suddenly loses his ability to see apparitions he decides to find another career. This is until he comes across the youkai Mokkun, a youkai he is able to see. With the help of Mokkun he is able to continue his work as an Onmyouji.

Discoveries:

This show has a pretty generic premise and could do a lot better. It just seems really played out and that there are a lot more series out there that would be able to do a better job than it is doing. The characters are pretty bland and if they had kept up with the original premise presented in the first episode and Masashiro slowly gaining his powers back I think it would have been a better show than it became.

Behind the Scenes:

The series is based of the light novel of the same name by author Mitsuri Yuki. Her previous series is Takamaru Hagen Zoshi, though Shounen Onmyouji is her most well known series. The series was directed by Kunihiro Mori, he has worked on such other series as Mars Daybreak, InuYasha, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, and Cho Soku Henkei Gyrozetter. The series was produced by Studio Deen and was licensed by Geneon, though is currently licensed by Funimation in North America. However, Funimation has yet to release it since acquiring the license.

The opening for the series is “The Meaning of Your Smile” by Kaori Hikita…

A Brief View of the World:

The series takes place in feudal Japan. In this Japan though Youkai exist and are known to cause trouble. With the help of Onmyouji the cities are safer. Basically it is like any other feudal Japan story with Youkai and Mononokes.

Enjoyment:

Overall, it is pretty bland and I would not recommend it. If this Omnyouji focused show it your sort of thing than you may want to give it a try, but overall there are other shows out there that do a way better job than this show.

The reason they stay together is because Masashiro was never afraid of him... that's a bit of a weak connection

Rewatchability:

This series is not really rewatchable, it is just really average and it is probably not going to get better through a second watch.

Rating:

5/10

Recommendations:

Kekkaishi – For a series with exorcist that take place in modern times.

Kekkaishi

D.Gray Man – For an exorcist series that has a more western focus to it.

D.Gray-Man

I do not own any of the above used pictures and/or video they belong to their original creators, Funimation, Studio Deen and Mitsuri Yuki.

Watched this when I was a kid, one of the most legit animes Deen has ever made… But such a pity it ended so abruptly…
